Uncluttered workstation — almost
The goal was to have an uncluttered workstation, without wires dangling from keyboard and mouse. I think I succeeded as far as the wires were concerned, but my old traditional clutter cannot be solved by technology.
Just in case you’re curious, here’s what you see;
Monitor – Samsung 2693HM; this is a decent 26 inch monitor, I sometimes still get the drowning feeling when I’m front of this thing.
Mac Mini Core 2 Duo – I pimped this up to 2GB, can’t go any further than 2GB, but it’s decent. I can run Eclipse Ganymede, Tomcat, JBoss and MySQL (all at the same) in this thing, and the response time is still decent, it’s not irritatingly slow.
Mac bluetooth keyboard – it’s a very tiny keyboard, but you won’t get CTS, it’s comfortable even if you type at blazing speed.
Mighty mouse bluetooth – not very happy with this mouse, I’ve replaced it twice in less than a year; there’s lots of room for improvement on this mouse.
The black thing on top of the mini – That’s a Lacie mobile disk (160GB), I wasn’t able to replace the HDD of the mini when I opened it up the first time (for the RAM upgrade), and I didn’t want to risk opening up again, so I got the Lacie.
The small white notebook at lower left corner – is an Asus EEE 701, I like to lug that around, it has an OpenBSD installation, no GUI, I use it mainly for word processing (vi of course).
The rest of the clutter – A paint brush (great keyboard cleaner), an IXUS 80 charger, an electronic cleaning cloth (good cleaner for LCD, iPhone surfaces and other screen surfaces), bunch of wires, blackberry curve and new stack of small post it notes – very handy for organizing ideas for posts.
If you want to show appreciation for my efforts dear reader, you could buy me a tall hazel nut Americano ($2) via PayPal. Thanks
